🔒 1. How to Mask (Sending)

ChatWall offers two complementary modes. Both are available simultaneously and work on all supported AI chat sites.

AInline integrated mode — "Mask with ChatWall" button

A floating badge labeled "Mask with ChatWall" appears above the chat input. Clicking it replaces the native input with ChatWall's inline secure editor.

1. Click "Mask with ChatWall" — the badge appears above the input when ChatWall is active.
2. Type your text in the dark inline editor. Sensitive data is highlighted automatically.
3. Use the Mask / Unmask toolbar buttons to fine-tune manually.
4. Click Submit masked ↗ to write the masked text back to the AI input.
5. Submit your prompt to the AI as usual.

BEditor mode — floating ChatWall button

Click the blue circular ChatWall button that appears at the top-right corner of the chat input to open the full secure editor overlay. The button turns red with a warning badge when sensitive data is detected in the native input.

1. Click the blue ChatWall button (top-right of input) to open the editor.
2. Type your text — it is automatically anonymized (e.g. [email protected] → [EMAIL_1]).
3. Click Send masked content (↗ button in the toolbar).
4. Submit your (masked) prompt to the AI as usual.

🔧 2. Custom Selection Masking

If ChatWall misses something, or masks too much:

• Select the text you want to modify. Use the Toolbar Buttons (Mask / Unmask):

• Or activate Painter mode — click the toolbar button then drag to paint over text:

• Or Right-Click the selection to mask manually.

🔓 3. How to Unmask (Reading AI responses)

The AI sees tokens like [NAME_1], but you can reveal the original data at any time — in both Editor and Inline modes.

• Green floating button — appears when the AI response contains masked tokens. Click it to unmask and view the full response.

• Right-click the copy button — right-click any copy button on an AI response to reveal a ChatWall menu:

  • Unmask & Preview — reveals original values inline in the AI response (green highlighted pills).
  • Unmask & Copy — copies the fully restored original text to clipboard.
• Select Text: Select masked text in an AI response to reveal the unmask button.

⚙️ 5. How to Configure

Click the ChatWall tab pinned at the top-center of any supported AI page to open the configuration panel. You can also open it from the Settings icon inside the inline editor.

• Inline Masking — toggle on/off the "Mask with ChatWall" badge and inline editor (Mode A).
• Editor Masking — toggle on/off the floating blue button and full editor overlay (Mode B).
• Always-On — when enabled, the inline overlay opens automatically every time you click on a chat input field.
• Activate / Deactivate — turn both modes off to disable ChatWall entirely without uninstalling the extension.
• My Account — sign in or manage your subscription on chatwall.io.
• Enter License Key — enter your email and license key (format CW-XXXX-XXXX) to activate Premium features.

⭐ 4. Custom Favorites

Teach ChatWall your specific terminology:

• Select common private content in your prompt (project name, signature, address …)
• Right-click and select Add to Favorites.
• ChatWall will automatically mask this exact content in future chats.
